Frequently asked questions
Answers about tracking, the AI engines, how the numbers work, pricing, the AI site audit and your data.
Getting started
What is Probeli AI?
Probeli AI tracks how AI assistants talk about your brand. Every day it asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity your buyers' questions, then shows how often you're named, how you rank against competitors and what to fix first.
What is AEO (or GEO)?
AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are two names for the same work: getting your brand named and cited when people ask AI assistants for advice. It's close to SEO, but the result is an answer that names a few brands, not a page of links.
The first step is measuring: which questions name you, which name your competitors, and which sources the AI relies on. Probeli AI does that measuring every day and shows what to fix.
Who is Probeli AI for?
Probeli AI is for marketing, SEO and brand teams whose buyers ask AI assistants for recommendations, and for agencies that do this work for clients.
Each website is its own workspace with its own plan, so an agency can keep every client brand separate. You don't need technical skills: setup starts from your website address, and there's no code to add to your site.
What is a prompt?
A prompt is a question a potential customer might ask an AI assistant, like "What's the best booking software for a small hotel?" Probeli AI asks each prompt on every AI engine daily, and every answer becomes one data point.
Good prompts sound like a buyer who hasn't picked a brand yet; prompts that name your brand are marked "Branded", as they overstate your visibility. The free trial tracks up to 10 prompts, the plans 20 to 300.
How long does setup take?
A few minutes, with nothing to install. Enter your website and Probeli AI reads your homepage, finds your competitors (usually 10–30 seconds) and writes buyer prompts. You can edit both lists before you finish.
Your first AI answers usually arrive within 1–3 minutes, and you can leave the page while they're collected. Daily runs start about 24 hours later, at the same time of day.
How it works
How is this different from asking ChatGPT myself?
Asking yourself shows one answer from one engine on one day, and AI answers change every time. Probeli AI asks the same prompts on 4 AI engines every day and turns the answers into trends you can compare with your competitors.
Which AI engines does Probeli AI track?
Probeli AI tracks 4 AI engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Every plan includes all of them, the free trial too, and every prompt is asked on each one every day.
For Google, Probeli AI tracks AI Mode, the conversational answers in Google's AI Mode tab, not the AI Overviews above regular results. See all engines together or filter your dashboards to one; every answer shows which engine gave it and when.
Does Probeli AI track Google AI Overviews?
No. For Google, Probeli AI tracks AI Mode: the conversational answers people get in Google's AI Mode tab. AI Overviews, the AI summaries shown above regular Google results, aren't tracked.
So every number Probeli AI shows for Google, from Visibility to Top cited sources, comes from AI Mode answers, and you can filter your dashboards to Google AI Mode alone.
How often are my prompts asked?
Every prompt is asked on each of the 4 AI engines once every 24 hours. Each workspace has a fixed daily time, set by when you finished setup, and the day's results usually land within the hour. Your first answers arrive during setup, and daily runs start about 24 hours later.
Probeli AI doesn't ask prompts on demand, and the app always shows when the next run is. On a paid plan, runs happen whether or not anyone opens the app; a trial workspace nobody opens for a week pauses until someone visits.
Can I change my competitors and prompts?
Yes, at any time, within your plan's limits. Owners and admins can add, edit, archive and restore prompts, and add or stop tracking competitors. New and edited prompts are asked in the next daily run, and the app tells you when that is.
Competitor changes reach back in time: Probeli AI re-analyzes the stored text of your past answers in the background, so a new competitor's history fills in. Nothing is lost when you archive a prompt or remove a competitor. Probeli AI also suggests prompts, and the brands AI names that you don't track yet.
Does Probeli AI help me improve, or only measure?
Both. Insights list the pages AI engines cite for your prompts that name your competitors but not you, ranked by priority, each with next steps. When a page starts naming you, its insight completes itself.
The AI site audit runs 18 checks of how easily AI crawlers and agents can read your site, with a fix for each problem. Probeli AI doesn't write content or send outreach: it shows where to act, and you publish.
What's in the weekly report and the drop alert?
The weekly visibility report is an email with your last 7 days: Visibility and Mentions with the change from the week before, your rank among tracked brands, the competitor that moved most, your top cited sources and new recommendations.
The drop alert arrives after a daily run when your visibility falls by more than 20% in a week. Both go to owners and admins and use the same numbers as your Overview. Each has its own in-app and email switch under Settings → Notifications.
Engines and data
Where do the AI answers come from?
From the engines themselves, through our data provider, DataForSEO. For ChatGPT and Gemini, it's the answer chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com show, with its sources. For Google, it's the AI Mode result, and for Perplexity, an answer from its Sonar model.
Probeli AI never writes or edits an answer: open any one to read exactly what the engine said.
Which country and language are the questions asked in?
Every prompt is asked from the United States with English as the language setting, and each answer shows "Location: US". Other countries and languages aren't available, so if your buyers are elsewhere, keep in mind that AI answers can differ by market.
The Probeli AI app and its emails are available in English, German, Spanish and French, and dates show in your own time zone.
How is Visibility calculated?
Visibility is the share of AI answers in the selected period that name your brand or link to your website. If you appear in 59 of 160 answers, your Visibility is 37%.
A mention only through a cited third-party page doesn't count toward Visibility; it's an indirect mention. Every page and email uses the same definition, so the numbers always match. Filter by engine and date, and compare with the previous period.
What's the difference between direct and indirect mentions?
A direct mention is an AI answer that names your brand or links to your website. An indirect mention is an answer that cites another page, like a review, a list or a forum thread, that mentions you.
To find indirect mentions, Probeli AI reads the pages the answers cite and counts every tracked brand named there; pages it can't read are counted and shown.
Mentions adds both together, and the Mentions page shows which cited pages name you and which name your competitors.
How are position and sentiment measured?
Avg. position is where your brand first appears among the tracked brands in an answer: #1 means you're named first, so lower is better.
Avg. sentiment is a 0–100 score of how positively the sentences around your brand read: 50 is neutral, 60 and above is positive and 40 and below is negative.
Both use the same fixed rules for every brand, not another AI's opinion, so the scores are consistent from answer to answer.
What if AI uses a different name for my brand?
Add aliases, like product names or a former name, and Probeli AI counts them as your brand. Every brand you track, yours and each competitor, can have its own aliases. Probeli AI also learns names on its own when ChatGPT links a different name to your domain.
When you change a brand name or an alias, Probeli AI re-analyzes the stored text of your past answers in the background, so past numbers update too.
Can I read the full answers?
Yes. Every answer is saved, and you can open it to read what the engine said, with your tracked brands highlighted, each brand's position and sentiment, the sources it cited and, where the engine reports them, the searches it ran.
The full text is kept for 365 days on Scale and 90 days on the other plans and the free trial. After that only the text goes: your metrics, mentions and citations stay for as long as the workspace exists, so charts and history remain complete.
Pricing and plans
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The 7-day free trial needs no credit card, and nothing is charged when it ends. You choose a plan only when you want tracking to continue after the trial.
The trial includes every feature: all 4 AI engines asked daily, Insights, the AI site audit and the weekly report, for up to 10 prompts. Team invites come with the paid plans.
What happens when the trial ends?
Daily tracking pauses, and your data is kept. You can still open your dashboards and every saved answer, and the AI site audit keeps working.
Retrying failed answers, new prompt suggestions and changing your website need a plan. Choose one in your workspace settings and tracking resumes within minutes. Nothing is charged automatically: the trial never asked for a card.
How much does Probeli AI cost?
Starter costs $59 a month, Growth $129 and Scale $299. Every plan asks its prompts daily on all 4 AI engines, and paying yearly saves at least 15%.
Starter tracks 20 prompts, Growth 75 and Scale 300, and bigger plans also track more competitors and fit more of your team. Prices are in US dollars, and each plan covers one website (compare the plans).
How many prompts do I need?
Enough to cover the main ways a buyer asks for what you sell: by category ("best … for …"), by the problem they have and by comparison ("alternatives to …"). Each prompt is asked on all 4 AI engines every day, so even a short list gives you plenty of answers.
The trial's 10 prompts show where you stand on the questions that matter most. Choose Growth or Scale when you want to cover more products or topics.
Do all plans include the same features?
Yes. Every plan includes all 4 AI engines asked daily, the Overview, Mentions, Competitors, Prompts, Searches, Insights, the AI site audit, the weekly report and drop alerts.
Plans differ only in how many prompts and competitors you track, how many team members you can invite and how long the full answer text is kept. You never pay extra for a feature.
Can I track several websites or brands?
Yes. Each website is its own workspace, with its own brand, competitors, prompts and plan. Add one from the switcher at the top of the sidebar and switch between them there, so an agency can keep every client separate.
Within a workspace you track one brand of your own, and every other brand is tracked as a competitor.
Can my team use Probeli AI?
Yes, on every paid plan. Starter includes 2 team members, Growth 10 and Scale unlimited. Team invites aren't available during the free trial.
Owners and admins manage prompts, competitors and insights; members can see everything but change nothing. Plans are priced per workspace, not per seat, so adding a member never changes your bill.
Can I change or cancel my plan?
Yes. To move to another plan or switch between monthly and yearly billing, open Billing in your workspace settings (owners and admins). The confirmation shows what the change costs when Paddle can work it out, and the new plan applies right away. The change is prorated: you're charged the difference now (for example for an upgrade), or it's credited to your Paddle balance and pays toward your next bills (for example for a downgrade). Credits aren't paid out. If the payment for a change fails, your plan stays as it was.
A downgrade never deletes anything: prompts beyond the new limit aren't asked (the ones you added first are kept), and competitors beyond it stay tracked, but you can't add new ones.
To cancel, the workspace owner opens Billing in the workspace settings ("Manage billing"). Your plan runs until the end of the billing period and your data stays. Checkout and invoices are handled by Paddle, our reseller and Merchant of Record.
What happens if a payment fails?
Daily tracking pauses until the payment goes through, and nothing is deleted. There's no grace period: the app shows a "Payment failed" notice right away and asks you to update your billing details.
Once the payment succeeds, tracking resumes by itself. Your dashboards and saved answers stay in your workspace the whole time.
AI site audit
What does the AI site audit check?
The AI site audit runs 18 checks of how easily AI search engines and agents can crawl, read and use your website.
The checks come in three groups: content and structure (semantic HTML, titles, structured data), discovery and crawlability (robots.txt access for crawlers like OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, sitemaps and llms.txt, bot challenges, JavaScript-only content) and developer and agent readiness.
You get a score out of 100, recommendations ranked Urgent, High or Low, and step-by-step fixes for each check that needs work.
Is the AI site audit free?
Yes. The audit is included in every workspace at no extra cost, and it keeps working after your trial ends, even without a plan. It needs a Probeli AI account and checks your workspace's own website.
Owners and admins can run it: the first audit any time, one re-run right after, then one every 24 hours. An audit usually takes a few minutes, and everyone on your team can see the results.
Does Probeli AI crawl my website?
Yes, lightly, and only public pages. Probeli AI reads a site in three cases: its homepage when you add it as your website or as a competitor, up to 40 of your pages (plus files like robots.txt, sitemaps and llms.txt) when you run the AI site audit, and pages that AI answers cite, to find the brands they name.
Every request identifies itself as ProbeliAIBot. The audit and the cited-page reader follow
robots.txt (the token is probeliaibot), except for a few requests such as robots.txt itself,
sitemaps and the redirects an audit follows, and they limit how fast they send requests to each
site. If your robots.txt blocks ProbeliAIBot, the AI site audit runs as a limited audit. Our
ProbeliAIBot page lists those requests and has the details.
Privacy and security
What data does Probeli AI store?
For each workspace: your website, brands, competitors and prompts, the AI answers with their sources, and the metrics calculated from them. For your account: your name, email, sign-in methods and active sessions, including the device and IP address of each.
Card details go straight to Paddle, which handles our checkout, so Probeli AI never sees them. Neither this site nor the app uses analytics or advertising cookies. Our privacy policy lists everything, including the providers we use.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. An owner can delete a workspace in its settings. The workspace is locked right away and daily tracking stops, and 3 days later it is deleted for good: its answers, prompts, competitors and insights are removed and its plan ends. Every member gets an email when this happens, and again when the workspace is restored or deleted. Until then, any owner can restore it from the workspace. After that it can't be undone. The workspace logo stays in our file storage until you ask us to delete it.
To close your account, delete it in your account settings. This also deletes every workspace you're the only member of right away (without the 3-day wait) and ends its plan. If you're the only owner of a workspace with other members, make someone else an owner or remove the other members first.
Deleting a workspace or your account needs a sign-in within the last day: if yours is older, sign out and sign in again first.
To prevent repeated free trials, we keep a small record of each trial start: your account ID, a one-way hash of your email, a one-way hash of your IP address and the website's domain (details in our Privacy Policy). If you need a hand, contact us.
How do you keep accounts and data secure?
You can sign in with a password, a magic link or a passkey, and turn on two-factor authentication. Adding a passkey, deleting a workspace and deleting your account need a sign-in within the last day: if yours is older, sign out and sign in again first. Only a workspace's members can see its data, and only owners and admins can change it; the server checks this on every request.
Probeli AI staff can access accounts for support, security and abuse handling. Every connection uses HTTPS, you can see and end your active sessions in your account settings, and our error reports never include your prompts, answers, name or email address.
